      Spreading the Spark & Other Goings On

      Hello World!! It's been a month since I joined and I've only made one post. Things got pretty hectic there for a while and I was unable to follow up with any subsequent writings. Things are a little less crazy(for right now), so I should be able to get some posts up regularly. Anyway, thanks to those that have begun following me thus far and I hope you enjoy what you read from here on out.

       

      So I re-joined the website SparkPeople and have restarted my journey toward excellence in body, mind, spirit, and emotion. I am doing Turbo Jam five times a week which includes strength training and pilates/yoga twice a week. I also plan to get into meditation and learning how to balance the things most important to me(i.e. family, spirituality, education, finances, etc.). I'm doing my best to "eat clean" and not add any extra unnatural sugars or processed foods into my diet. I'm on my 12th day of exercising and am practicing a mostly vegetarian diet with no meat but some dairy like a little cheese. I feel wonderful, but a little on the tired side I assume from possibly needing more B12 because I've been doing well overall with everything else. SparkPeople is great for keeping track of your exercise and what you eat. They even can create exercise and meal plans for you for FREE!! It's a wonderful place!       One of the major reasons behind my wanting to get healthy is the witnessing of my mother in law having her leg amputated due to diabetes complications. I have already had other family members pass on from this disease even when it could have been controlled and eventually gotten rid of. I don't want the same fate for myself or anyone else in my family so it's time to be a beacon for change; to be the change I want others to be. Aside from that, I must be the light that guides my children toward a better quality of life. It is important for them to have an example of someone leading a life of excellence in all areas and I will no longer stand by and let life pass me by even if only for their sake.

      A Few Things

      Hey all!! Hope you're having a beautifully blessed day/night/everything upon your finding me here. Just wanted to plug a few things and introduce you to who I am and a little of what I am about. I'm Kendra from Decatur, IL which is a couple hours from Chicago. I live with my wonderful husband, my vibrant son, and my gorgeous new baby girl. I like to consider myself an artist. I write, design graphically, design fashions, make jewelry, and am working on patternmaking(to sew what I design), want to get into dance, and am looking forward to getting better and better at those things I want to do and already do.

      Some of my interests are reading, poetry/Spoken Word, event planning & design, travel, foreign languages, and learning ways I can become the best version of myself possible. Right now I am into working on the marketing side of the Black Arts Association my friend just began and Mirror Me Productions, another company my friend began last year. Other than that, my children and home life are what I'm focused on right now.

       

      My vision for this blog is to express, explore, and enlighten you as well as myself on a variety of topics inlcuding health, spirituality, parenting, and more.

       

      So, there's a few things. I hope you enjoyed learning a little about me. I look forward to sharing with you.
